Cardiovascular Rehabilitation and Prevention
The heart is one of our most vital organs. Without adequate blood flow to our working muscles we fatigue and without adequate blood flow to our brain we faint. Thankfully, our Accredited Exercise Physiologists have had extensive education and experience in the anatomy, physiology and evidence-based treatment for patients that have issues with their cardiovascular system. All of our cardiac patients are placed in high care as we regularly monitor their blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen saturation levels to ensure they are safe but also achieving an intensity of exercise that is clinically beneficial for their condition. We like to work in two domains when it comes to the cardiovascualr system: prevention and rehabilitation.
We use exercise and lifestyle change to assist those people with high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high triglyercides to treat these modifiable conditions, to ensure they are well managed and decrease the likelihood of future cardiac complications.
We also offer cardiac rehabilitation for those patients having recently undergone surgery. Most hospitals will provide stage 1 rehabilitation to get the patient moving and walking so they can be discharged, however fail to build the strength of the heart that may be necessary to adequately prepare the pateint for their pre-surgical demands in everyday life. We can help with the following conditions:
- Post operative coronary artery bypass graft (CABG)
- Valve replacement
- Post myocardial infarction (heart attack)
- Ischaemic heart disease
- Post pacemaker or defibrillator insertion
- Chronic heart failure and any other cardiac related condition
Depending on the location, we may also offer cardiac rehabiltiation in a group setting. If this is not available at your location, you are welcome to attend a small clinical group session where you will be supervised and progressed by one of our friendly AEPs.
